Sophie Masson is an extremely successful Australian writer with over 30 novels published in Australia and overseas. In April this year Sophie Masson’s new novel ‘Boggle Hunters‘ was released and seems to be the beginning an exciting new adventure.
In Masson’s word:
This book, which challenges the everyday perception of fairies, 3 wishes etc, is the beginning of a new magical series for children aged 8-12. The book swaps between two main focuses, Jenny and Sam. The story is split up into chapters for Jenny and chapters for Sam. Sam finds himself inside a computer game that he is inventing as he plays. Jenny is searching for her parents who have gone missing form Buckingham Palace. Eventually the stories overlap and become entwined as the real adventures begin for our protagonists.
What in the world is a Boggle? In the Faery world there are two rival tribes, the Feys and the Greys. The Feys are the good guys, and the Greys are the bad guys. A Boggle is a creature thing that is created by Greys. The Greys create Boggles to cause havoc in the human world and the Feys work to detect and destroy them, and the Feys hire human Boggle hunters to help them.
What is always effective in children’s series is creating a role that is not only magical and exciting, but one that a child could have the hope to achieve. Just as children ran through the school yard dressed as wizards with lightening shaped scars on their heads, they can imagine themselves hunting Boggles in an attempt to save the human race.
If you’re looking for a new adventure for your children to go on for the holidays this proves to be the start of an intriguing series that will keep your child entertained and occupied. Masson herself has blogged about the creation of her new book and if you are’t quite sold on the idea then its worth checking out!
