Congratulations to our competition winners!

We received some fantastic entries in our Possum Magic 30th anniversary give away and WaggaBloggas is happy to be sending 3  of these special copies to 3 of our wonderful entrants.

Winning a 30th anniversary edition of Possum Magic would be magic for me!  I recall afternoons spent at home with my Mum preparing a magic afternoon tea of vegemite sandwiches, pavlova and lamingtons.  I ate vegemite sandwiches for school lunch for virtually 6 years running was because I was convinced of their magic AND we all know a lamington or two can really set your head straight.  Winning this gorgeous book would provide the perfect excuse for a magic tea party with my two little possums and a keep the glorious words and pictures of this Aussie treasure alive for generations to come!

Part of the magic of childhood comes from dragging a book entirely too big for you off the shelf, pulling it over to a parent or loved one and looking up into their faces, alive with excitement and wonder as you wait for them to start reading you into a world that is filled with hope, joy and imagination. I remember crawling into my mum’s lap and having her read ‘Possum Magic’ to me. She read in different voices for Grandma Poss and Hush and encouraged us to hunt for magic in the other books on our shelf, much as Grandma Poss did when she was searching for a way to cure Hush of her invisibility.

I have since seen my mother pass on this magic to hundreds of other children who have been as lucky as I was to experience the passion and vivacious love of entertaining she possesses when she teaches. I have had my nieces drag ‘Possum Magic’ off the shelf and huddle into my lap, staring at me with the same eager faces as I know I gave my mum when I was little. ‘Possum Magic’ is a timeless Australian classic which I know I will one day read to my own kids, hoping to give back to them what my mum gave to me. I want to add winning the special edition of this iconic story into my own memories of ‘Possum Magic’, which I hope will continue to expand when I see new faces filled with happiness, asking me to read them into Mem Fox’s magical world.

Possum Magic is a book that brings make so many magical memories from my childhood, it is favourite of mine to read to my son, and ever class i have read it to, as a teacher, loves it. All talking ceases, all eyes look at the book, and everyone, children and adults, are engrosed in the story. Everyone, even those who have heard the story, wants to know what will happen to Hush, where they will go to find a remedy, and how Grandma Poss will fix Hush. It is a story that symbolises togetherness, problem solving, love and even national pride.
